A
Shade Above the Rest ...
People are spending more and more money on sunscreen and
anti-wrinkle cream, but are forgetting about protecting
their eyes from the sun. It is important to protect your
eyes from harmful UV radiation (UV Rays).Sunlight does
more damage to the eyes than simple deepening laugh
lines. Many people are surprised to learn that it is
possible to sunburn the eye, or that the sun can be a
contributing factor to ocular complications including
v
Cataracts
an eye disease in which the lens becomes covered in an
opaque film that affects sight, eventually causing total
loss of sight. It can be treated surgically by replacing
the lens with an artificial implant.
v
Macular
Degeneration degeneration of the central
portion of the retina, resulting in a loss of sharp
vision.
v
Skin
Cancer (around the eye area) a malignant
neoplasm of the skin.
Protecting your eyes with good quality sunglasses is the
only way to protect them from damage. You need to be
careful when purchasing sunglasses, even though most say
100% UV protection they are not always that way, here
are some things to watch out for
v
UVA
ultraviolet radiation, with a relatively long
wavelength
v
UVB
ultraviolet radiation, with a relatively short
wavelength
v
Harmful Blue Light
-
Some sunglasses will say the protect from the above but
when that protection is only a coating applied to the
top of the lens it wears off as soon as they get
scratched. Look for higher quality sunglasses that
integrate the filters right into the lens, with this if
they are ever scratched your vision is never
compromised.
Optics
When picking out a pair of sunglasses you also need to
ensure that the optics of the lens are of good quality.
Poor optics found in lower quality glasses can result in
headaches, eye fatigue and even distorted vision. To
