UV and Your Eyes

When it comes to your eyes UV light can cause a lot of damage the eyes, by destroying and damaging tissues and cells in and around the eye. Macular Degeneration and Cataracts can be caused by UV exposure. Most UV exposure to our eyes occurs before reaching adult hood. It is very important that when children our outside that they are wearing UV protected glasses, whether it be a tinted sunglasses or clear lenses.

The most import thing to remember is not all sunglasses are created equal, while some sunglasses say they are 100% UV protection, they are not. 100% UV protection is not actually 100% they just meet Canadian standards.

Did you know?

Cheap sunglasses that you find in the drug store meet the standard UV protection without actually having a UV coating applied to lens. The plastic that is used for the lenses is so impure that it blocks out UV radiation all on its own, because of this your eyes can become strained and tired. That is why it is always important to ask questions about the quality of protection when purchasing your sunglasses.

Rx Sunglasses

Prescription Sunglasses are the best way to provide you with sun protecting and correction for your visual needs. Prescription lenses can either be done with just a straight tint or a polarized filter depending on your needs, as well as in a single vision lens or multi power lens.. The basic things to remember when searching for your new sunglass frames is the stronger the prescription the thicker the lenses will become, and lenses are designed flat, so the smaller and flatter the frame is the easier and more likely it will work for your prescription.
